Meeting Minutes by Paula FlahertyMeeting Called to order by President Elect Brandon Weber at 7:35 p.m. C.O.P.: Officer Scalise reported that crime statistics were down for the past year. These include major crimes such as rape, robbery, murder, etc. New Officers will be assigned. The bicycle safety program will continue giving free helmets to children. ProgramMayor Tom Murphy was introduced and spoke about the Highland Park Reservoirs and the Filtration Plant project. Greg Tutsock, Executive Director of the PWSA and John Kasper, Senior Project Management Engineer also participated in the presentation. Committee ReportsBeautification: Funds allocated by Councilman Ferlo for neighborhood beautification are available for use. Dell also requested that someone volunteer to help him with this committee. Block Watch: No Report. Children's Committee: There is nothing planned for the immediate future but there will be an event at Easter time. Signage: Diane DeNardo will proceed with the new signs but requests a volunteer as co-chair to assist her. A club member volunteered. Banners: A printer and someone to hang the banners will be looked into. Commercial District: Muzz Meyers reported that work is being done with architects and planners on a "main street" proposal. The CDC is purchasing an apartment building on Bryant Street adjacent to a lot already owned. A new development is being planned. Day Camp: No Report Education: No report. Hospitality: No report. House tours: A house tour is being planned for autumn. Membership: No report. Program: No report. Public Safety: Gang activity in Garfield was discussed. A "gang patrol" is being organized and marchers are being sought. Please call Mercine Nefores to volunteer. Recreation: No report. Restoration: No report. Super Playground: No report. Yard Sale: Judy Wolfe is seeking a co-chair to assist and subsequently take over the chair and run next year's sale. An artist suggested that an artwork and crafts sale be conducted as part of the yard sale. The idea was well received. Zoning: Brandon Weber is arranging to receive zoning notices on- line so the information will be immediately available. Christina Lagnese attended the last zoning meeting. Two other club members will be attending the February meeting. Finance Committee: The committee voted to approve a check for $1000 as a contribution to last year's Reservoir of Jazz. Holiday Party: A big success with many new members attending as well as many long time members. Thanks to all who worked to make the party a success. New BusinessCommunity Plan Proposal: A discussion and review of the Community Plan Proposal was made by Michael Johnson. A motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously to support the proposal. Fulton School: Mr. Todd Van Horn, Principal of Fulton, spoke regarding a family with six children and their single mother who were burned out of their home. Donations are being requested and can be given at Fulton. Clothing is no longer needed due to the wonderful response from the community and beyond. Meeting Adjourned at 9:40 p.m. |
