Meeting Minutes by Shannon Mischler, HPCC SecretaryThe meeting was called to order by President Lisa Williams at 7:30 P.M. Annual Meeting: Lisa noted that the annual meeting to elect board members will be in September 18. A slate of candidates is listed elsewhere in this newsletter. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting and to vote. Block Watch: Jan Stayianos reported that there were 12 arrests in Highland Park last month, on top of which there were stolen cars, a home invasion, and multiple reports of graffiti throughout Highland Park. If anyone is aware of further incidents of graffiti in Highland Park, please contact Jan. Highland Park Community Development Plan: Karen Brean spoke about a strategy implementation meeting for the board members, committee chairs, and officers of the HPCC and the HPCDC (Highland Park Community Development Corporation). Michael Johnson mentioned that a computer, currently residing at Tazza d'Oro and granted by CMU, is looking for a new home. If you have an interest in the computer and how it can benefit Highland Park, please contact Brenda Cole (volunteer community plan coordinator). House Tour: Dana Thomas reported that she has 12 houses for the tour, but is still looking for more volunteer homes. The house tour has been set for October 18th. She is also still looking for volunteer helpers the day of the tour. Please contact her. Advance tickets sales are beginning. Parks: Mary Beth Steisslinger noted that the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority will have a grand opening party for the filtration plant in September. At this event you will be able to tour the facility. Mail: Vintage Center reports that they are celebrating a 30 year anniversary and will do so with a commemorative mural facing Highland Ave. that will extend 50 feet high. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM. |
