Update: Monday, June 10, 2002

Many of the trees that were damaged by the storm have been removed or pruned, but many still remain to be taken care of.

The trees blocking the path by the tunnel, blocking the reservoir steps, below the baseball field, and at Elm grove have all been removed. Many trees around the reservoir walkway are still in bad shape.

The new trees at the Farmhouse have been straightened.

A tree is down and has been partially cut at the corner of Mellon Street and Callowhill Streets. Judging from the Verizon technicians in the immediate vicinity working on utility poles and lines, this tree disrupted phone service in the area.

In December 2000, a large tree fell down just a block from here (towards Bryant Street), knocking down power lines.

A tree has fallen, blocking a path in the park. The photo was taken from inside the tunnel under Reservoir Drive.

A tree has been split on the path around the reservoir. This is just one of many trees in this condition in the park and around the neighborhood.

A tree has fallen on the steps to the reservoir. There are so many trees down still that even ones such as this one haven't been removed yet.

A tree is down below the baseball field near the Farmhouse. This photo was taken from the road to the Farmhouse. Many of the trees that have fallen are quite large, as this one is.

These new trees at the new playground near the Farmhouse are leaning, but at least haven't fallen down.

Several trees are down at Elm Grove. This is the only grove in the park I saw that was still closed.

Crews are cleaning up fallen trees on Mellon Street at Stanton Avenue (technically East Liberty, not Highland Park). Many trees have fallen in the neighborhood outside of the park, too.

These ducks are enjoying the warm, sunny day, despite the din of chainsaws and heavy equipment being used in the area to clean up the mess left by the storm.
