The Highland Park Community — Highland Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania |
Maintenance Day at the Super Playground
|
|
In 1991, volunteers from the community raised money to build a "super playground" at Maple Grove in Highland Park. They constructed the playground in just one weekend. On September 14, 2002, community volunteers replaced deteriorating wood, sanded rough surfaces, reset nails, picked up trash, removed weeds, repainted monkeybars and details, and applied water repellent. We're still looking for volunteers to oversee the continuing work on the Super Playground. Please Contact us if you'd like to be on the playground committee. |

Volunteers gathered at 8:00 am on a Saturday morning to clean and repair the Super Playground.
The work ranged from replacing deteriorating wood to removing weeds.
A portable generator provided electricity for power tools.
Adults finally got their chance to experience the Super Playground first-hand.
Enrico's Tazza d'Oro provided breakfast for volunteers such as this painter.

Rough surfaces needed to be sanded before before water repellent could be applied.
In addition to all the new paint, the Super Playground should be getting a new swing for disabled people. Also, old tires will be replaced by cargo netting.
Some of the helping hands for this project came from children.
These men will probably be back at the playground in the spring when we put down new wood chips. Please Contact us if you'd like to help.
