Snow Day in Highland Park, Monday, February 17, 2003

Home

A winter storm dumped around 10 inches (about 25 cm) of snow in the Pittsburgh region over the weekend, prompting the state of Pennsylvania to declare a disaster emergency (not as serious as a state of emergency), and many schools and employers to give students and employees the day off.

This snowy sidewalk along North Negley Avenue was typical during the morning before residents began shoveling the overnight accumulation.

Some residents used their cross-country skis to get around the neighborhood in the morning, as this family did near the old King Estate.

If you look closely near the base of the column to the left, you'll see more skiers at the North Highland Avenue entrance to the park.

Many residents had the day off, but this statue (and its twin) at the North Highland Avenue entrance to the park still had to work.

Enrico's Tazza d'Oro, as always, was a popular place to get warm.

These pink flamingos at a home on North Highland Avenue probably long for a warmer climate right now...

... but these children are quite happy to have the day off so they can sled down the hill behind the ballfield at the Farmhouse.
