PittsburgH2OThe Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and the City of Pittsburgh invite you to PittsburgH2O - a ribbon cutting celebration of the new microfiltration plant and babbling brook in Highland Park. The event will feature tours of the brook and reservoir, music, food, wagon rides and a puppet show. The PWSA's original plans called for building a concrete channel to funnel backwash or wastewater from the plant down the hill to Lake Carnegie. But the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, stepped in with a more aesthetic approach. With the help of the landscape architecture firm LaQuatra Bonci Associates, the Conservancy created the watercourse with boulders and flowing water, a trail and bridge to create a pleasing experience for visitors. Wastewater from the plant with a high concentration of chlorine becomes naturally de-chlorinated as it is exposed to air, rocks and leaves. Funding for the project was provided by the PWSA and the PPC with a grant from the Eden Hall Foundation. PittsburgH2O is a members' day for members of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. It is open to the public but non-members will be encouraged to join. Call 412-682-7275 for more information. |
